Hi,
I'm new to the community and starting to setup custom templates for work.
Can anyone help me with suggesting if there is a way to have an Excel like template while creating an issue?
I want to be able to have cells and tables in the template itself for users to be able to enter information.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Vamsee
Sorry if my use case sounds confusing.
for e.g. if field one drop down says Yes/No, then I need to be able to fill in the second field and basically needs to be an editable field.
Cascading is a auto populate thing. I need the second field to be editable while the user fills in based of the first drop down field.
There are no field types that do this.
You could try Behaviours to show/hide the second field based on the content of the first.

Hi @[deleted]
can you specify more your requirement? Why do you need an Excel like template in the creation of an issue?

So I have some data that i need the user to fill in, which today is maintained in excel.
And when i try to customize the Issue template in a way to put custom fields for them to enter info appropriately, i'm unable to do so since the custom fields dont support the way i want the data to be entered.
For e.g: I need two text fields side by side and then a drop down all in one line.
And i couldn't find a way to capture data that way. Does it make sense?

The best way to create a form to be filled by the customer is using Jira Service Desk with a transition screen.

You can use a cascading select custom field.
Hope I undestand you're requirements

I see that as a good option. But I’m trying to replicate some of that excel functionality into the template and get rid of the excel itself. I want them to be able to fill in the template itself.
I did checkout the cascading field but it’s just two fields side by side and both drop downs.
Is there a custom field like two text fields side by side or one drop down and one text field side by side?
I am looking for such customization or options.

Hi @[deleted],
I don't think there's anything in Jira like this but you could extract these functionalities you want from Jira and adapt it. For example:
Is there a custom field like two text fields side by side or one drop down and one text field side by side?
You can't have two fields side by side except the cascading select custom field by default. You can do it with some development but I don't if it's a good idea. Which is the goal of having these fields side by side? Is the second fields depending from the first one?

Yeah I did a lot of looking around and didn’t find anything that would suffice my requirement.
Yes I need two text fields side by side. The two fields are dependent but I don’t want the second one auto populated.

Have you tried adding a cascading select field?

Thank you for responding.
Yes I did and it’s two drop downs side by side which doesn’t support my use case.

The use-case you describe is a cascading select, as far as I can see. Could you expand on what I am missing here?
