I have an old Jira Server instance whose contents I would like to migrate to Jira Cloud. Jira Cloud will only accept an import from 7.6.0 or later and my Jira Server is on 4.3.3. To update my Jira Server, I would have to renew its maintenance license but doing so requires me to pay for the license for all of the past 9 years, which is a staggeringly steep fee just to get an export in a more recent version.
Are there alternative options? The backup is just XML data so converting it to whatever the current data structure is should be simple, relatively speaking.
Okay, I wrote my own tool to remap the data in my Jira Server XML export into a CSV file that Jira Cloud would accept while preserving all the important stuff like fields, dates, and comments. Took a little over a day's worth of work but it's done and everything's looking good in the new site.

Thanks, this looks interesting. I have to specify a URL to migrate from so I presume I have to set up an externally accessible URL for my Jira Server? And to confirm, it does support a Jira version as old as 4.3.3?

1. Yes, your Jira should be open for an external connection.
2. Your version is very old, but I think it should be okay for migration.

Nope, didn't work out. It wouldn't accept my Jira Server and Support confirmed my version was too old to work with it.
