How to differentiate bin or war install

Hi

I am planning to upgrade JIRA from 6.1.5  --> Target 6.4.6 on linux

Have few questions

1. How do I differentiate if earlier installation is from binary or war?
2. If it is war can I use rapid upgrade process?

You can navigate to the Administration » System » System Info page in JIRA:

http://jira-address/secure/admin/ViewSystemInfo.jspa

And search for Installation Type. That will show if JIRA is standalone or WAR. 

If it is WAR you should not use the installer (rapid upgrade). Instead, follow one of the recommended approaches mentioned on Upgrading JIRA.
