×My company recently switched to Jira from Trello, and the administrative workload is increasing. Some of this is acceptable, but much of it is not.
My team does a lot of repeat work, and really liked the efficiency that "card templates" gave us in Trello.
Imagine you work for Miriam Webster. And several times a week, you add new words to the dictionary. You also add features, fix bugs, and take on larger projects that warrant Themes and Epics.
You use Story issues for a lot of your work, and so like the blank issue for that. But when you're adding a new word to the dictionary—something you do several times a week—you want the description and the checklist to be pre-populated with specific things so that the new word all get added properly, but you didn't have to go search the backlog to clone an issue you're using as a template, nor type everything out manually, or grab the text from a Google doc and manually build the checklist.
Trello made this really easy because you could have as many templates as you wanted, and a new card would only use the template if you created it that way.
There are countless Help Center threads on this topic over the years, and it's still really confusing and unclear whether Jira supports this in a usable way.
I am a board admin, but not a "Jira" admin... and the templates I need are unique to my team.
I'm exhausted by searching and scrolling through endless threads on this... can someone from Atlassian please just tell me whether what I need is easily supported or not? If it's something only available through a plugin, then which plugin?
If you are on Server, there's nothing we can do to help as new licenses are no longer sold for this platform, so there's no way for you to get a checklist Add-on.

If by chance you are on Data Center, you might want to take a look at Checklist for Jira Data Center, a state-of-the-art checklist app that will let you apply a checklist to any chosen issue type automatically. @Maxime Lefebvre _Okapya_ may be able to tell you more about it.
If you are on Jira Cloud however, I cannot recommend Issue Checklist for Jira (either Free or Pro) enough - I'm confident it's a perfect match for your needs. It allows for creation of checklist templates that can be set as defaults to be applied on issues in select projects and issue types. It supports user mentions, due dates, issue smart links and much more!
If that piques your interest, please feel free to ask questions here or reach out to us via our service portal. A demo of the app can also be arranged.
Cheers!
Did you really mean Jira Server when posting your question?
I'm asking because you wrote that your company "moved recently" but Jira Server is not offered by Atlassian anymore.
Cheers,
Jack
