I added epics to a version. How can I include the issues belonging to the epics?

olaeld September 19, 2019

I have created a "version" in Jira, to help visualize the completion of a set of 12 epics.

But the "Releases" view for this version only shows 0 of 12 issues done (all the epics are partially done). It does not look into the epics to see what percentage of work on issues belonging to the epics have been completed.

Am I asking for too much here? The 12 epics contain over 300 issues. Do I need to add the 300 issues to the version manually?

An epic can contain multiple versions and releases, that's why the behaviour you want is not configurated by default.

You can add the version to the issue edit or creation screen from now on or using a post function to copy the field affected version and fix version, but I wouldn't recommend that kind of automation. Also you can use bulk edit to change the current issues releases.

Agree - use bulk edit to add FV to issues.

If this is to monitor the progress of the epics ready for the release I do this in confluence and create a page for each epic then create a master page showing all if needed (Just be careful to ensure if your on a very large JIRA instance many user that the JQL is efficient) Than create a master page showing all the epics this could be done either in confluence of on dashboards.

I like to do it in confluence as you can use the excert macro to create the master dashboard.
