Is there anyway to add user instructions to transition pop-ups

Hi all, I'm a bit stumped here.

I'm trying to add instructions to key transition screens (QA Pass, QA Fail, Ready to Build) and basically want to remind the user to update certain fields before assigning or closing the issue.

I tried using the Jira Toolkit but must be doing something wrong because I cannot for the life of me can these message custom fields to appear ANYWHERE in my transition dialogues.

I wanted to know how Atlassian do it, as their https://jira.atlassian.com ticketing system.

See below, this is exactly what I want to do.... Please help me!

Hi Adam, sorry for the late response. First, go through this:

http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRAKB/Custom+Fields+or+System+Fields+are+Not+Appearing+on+the+Screen

  • Do you have a context on the custom field?
  • Is your mapping field -> Screen -> Screen Scheme -> Issue Type Screen Scheme -> Project correct?
  • Make sure you've got the Description (View) field, not Description (Edit).
  • Make sure you've filled out the default value, as opposed to the description.

Hopefully it's something in there?

I'm sure of everything else. However, the default value never seemed to save, i.e. everytime I opened the default value it was blank. Is this correct?

I'll dig out the log in the AM. I'm about to leave the office for the day. I'll update this comment tomorrow. Thanks Jeremy!

Hi Jamie, I'm not sure which plugin you're referring to? I don't have a plugin called Behaviours installed... Unless its named something else?

No - it should save! It sounds like this is the problem. Any errors in the atlassian-jira.log file?

Not sure, but are you using an old version of the behaviours plugin? I'm curious because it used to do that red outline which I think I see on your screenshots.

There is no known issue along these line, but perhaps you have a behaviour that clears the help text (as I refer to it). If so you should disable the plugin and retry to see if that's your issue...

Here's my screen setup:

Custom Fields - Check

Screens assigned - Check

Shown in Transition - Failed!

We use a Message custom field from the JIRA Toolkit. You'll probably have to make some changes to your Screens to ensure they're displaying these fields for the correct transitions.

I've tried using the toolkit. I've checked the screens and the messages are there, but when put to action they don't appear. Is there something I need to do with the toolkit to enable the additional features?
