JIRA Version 4.4.4 Standalone
We have a user that deleted one of his comments on an issue. Per the deletion, the comment now no longer appears in the Comments tab. The comment -- full text -- still appears (as a made changes comment) within the History tab.
Is there any functionality to remove the comment from the History tab?
Thanks for your consideration.
JIRA for years has a somewhat questionable functionality which allows you to:
- edit selected comment and change it to e.g. "." (empty comments are not permitted)
- remove then such edited comment.
- effectively you will see in the history that someone removed "." comment. There will be no trace of original comment.
As this circumvent full history tracking which normally is supported by Atlassian tools (and this is good as it definitely promotes responsible behaviours), I am not a great fan of this feature. However if you limit comment deletion just to some special users (admins) you don't have this problem.
Hi Wojciech, thank you for your guidance and insights. The example you've detailed gives me a much better understanding of this issue and confidence in how to proceed.
Take care, CR7

It is currently not possible to do it via the UI unless you remove the item directly in the database. which it is a bit ricky could cause the data corruption.
