JIRA Software and Interacting with Users

I am looking to do a kanban board with JIRA Software to better manage backlog and releases. I was wondering what others do to connect with users during requirements gathering, UAT, verification, and notification work being complete in production. Since Software does not have a user portal how do you manage the interactions needed. Could you make comments on ticket but then have the user respond via email? What works for you?

Not sure if this is an option but we use confluence. This allows free open discussion and collection of ideas/requirements which can then be created & linked into the kanban board
