Jira import from backup does not work due wrong directory location

Maria Luce Congedo February 18, 2022

I am traying to restore system from a backup file that I saved in "/var/atlassian/application-data/jira/import.

The procedures fails and shows me:

"Could not find file at this location: /var/atlassian/application-data/jira/import/*.zip "

It seems to me that the directory is not the correct one, I saved in export instead it is looking in import.

I'm using Jira Software 8.13.2

Can you help me?

Hey @Maria Luce Congedo  Welcome to Atlassian Community !!

Application stores the xml backup files by default in <JIRA_HOME>/jira/export folder itself.

We have to copy/move that saved zip file to <JIRA_HOME>/jira/import folder, and provide the read, extract permissions for the file.

The restore process searches  the zip file in /import folder itself.

Hi Vishwas, Thank you!!

This copy/move procedure is up to me or it is automatic so I need to wait?

I am not able to reach the file.

@Maria Luce Congedo

You may have to get the backend access for this to do. So login to the linux VM and navigate to the paths

var/atlassian/application-data/jira/export  here find the backup zip file and then copy to var/atlassian/application-data/jira/import folder

Note: you might have to do this operations as jira user

Hi Maria,

It is possible it is there, but not accessible to the application via ownership or permissions. Review and update the import file ownership and permissions. Cheers!

Thank you for your reply Joshua!

In which way I can update permission? I am not able to see or access the file after Backup's creation.

I' am using Datacenter by web.

so then vote to https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRASERVER-74216 which if gets implemented should give us the possibility to download the backup from JIRA
