Jira randomly removing users from groups

Paul Furness June 14, 2018

Hi,

I wondered if anyone could help me figure out why Jira is automatically removing users from groups that are managed through our Active Directory - the user sync is set to read only so we don’t make changes on Jira itself to give a user access to a page.

The sync is set to Incremental - so should only pick up changes made rather than doing a full sync every time - We only have about 150ish users so not a large environment.

Every couple of weeks Jira randomly just starts removing users out of a group which shows in the audit log. This is also reflected in the Jira database - but the users have not been removed out of the Active Directory group.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I am guessing the local user/group cache might be out of sync. You may try to recreate the user directory inside JIRA and verify. The best option is to disable the existing AD user directory and create a new one and sync it. I advise to do this in UAT/Stage before doing it on Production as it may lead to downtime.
