The pictures are BOARD COLUMNS, not workflow.

Board Column details:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirasoftwarecloud/configuring-columns-764477997.html

Look here to see WORKFLOW:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver072/working-with-workflows-828787890.html

To check workflow resolved status, first look at colors...

Green Box causes a Resolved (strikethrough) state.

I suspect QA might be green/resolved. If so, click the QA status box and uncheck the Resolved selection.

The issues that have the strike-through are "resolved".  This is determined by the value in the "resolution" field for the issue.

If the resolution is <empty>, then the issue is unresolved and will not show the strike-out.  If the resolution has <any value>, then the issue is resolved and struck out.

Note that when the resolution is <empty>, Jira will either not display it, or display unresolved, instead of a value.

To get the problem you are seeing, there are four possible errors:

  1. The workflow sets the resolution with a post-function at the wrong point in the workflow.
  2. The workflow asks the user for a resolution in a transition screen at the wrong point in the workflow.
  3. You have put the resolution on the issue Edit screen
  4. You have put the resolution on the issue Create screen

So, you need to check

  • The screen scheme for the project and issue type.  Make sure the resolution is not on any of the screens used in the scheme (you don't need it on "view", Jira will display it whatever you do)
  • Each transition screen in your workflow.  Resolution should only be used on transitions into your "done" status
  • Every transitions post-functions - you should only use "set resolution to x" on transitions into the "done", and only for transitions that have no screen as above.
  • You should have a "clear resolution" post function on all transitions from "done" to "not done" status.
  • If you are doing the workflow via your board (simplified workflow), there is a simple check box on the columns for setting and clearing the resolution which handles the post-functions mentioned above for you.

My best guess is that you've made the most common mistake and put the resolution on an edit screen.

Note that there are other ways to mis-set resolution, but is very very rare, as most people who would start doing that sort of thing would generally be experienced admins who know better than to do it.

Videos tend to be useless as the products diverge and they tend to change quite rapidly.  Almost every video you'll find on Jira is already out of date, sometimes before it's even published!

You need to edit the workflow here.  As an admin, you will find you have the option to edit it, as a button on the top of the workflow view screen (go there via project admin)

Once you have clicked edit, you can click the things in the workflow.  For post-functions, you will need to click the transition you want to amend (transitions are the arrows that link status to status).  You will then see the properties of the clicked transition and that has a "post function" tab in it.

You need to use screens and post-functions in your workflow to set and clear the resolution field appropriately, as we've already said.

Hi Radha,

The reason why an issue appears cossed out on your board is because it has a value set in its 'Resolution' field. Normally a resolution is set when you move an issue to your "Done" status. You either set it manually through a transition screen or automatically through a post function.

Now why an issue is still crossed out when you reopen it is because it still has a value set in its 'Resolution' field. What you need to do is add a post function to your transition that leads FROM "Done" status to whatever other status you need. This way, whenever you reopen an issue (by moving it from Done to, say, In progress) its Resolution will be cleared automatically and it will NOT appear crossed out on your board anymore.

Sure thing,

Check this documentation on how to work with workflow post functions.
