We are contemplating migrating our database platform for our Atlassian Suite of products that we have implemented (at current JIRA Data Center, Confluence, Bitbucket) from MS SQL Server to PostgreSQL.
At a high level, what is the level of support we can expect from Atlassian if we come across a given issue and it can be attributed to the Database?
Looking for replies from customers as well as Atlassian resources on the topic. Any and all input welcome.
Thank you!
Hi Scott,
I can confirm PostgreSQL is a supported database which means that Atlassian will provide support at the application level when there's an issue with database. That being said, Atlassian is not PostgreSQL which means technical debug and troubleshooting for specific context might not be available or could take some time. That would be the same for any database system though!
From past experience, switching from MS SQL to pgSQL is quite a pain, especially on DataCenter as the technologies are not the same and some specificities might be bringing issues. Nothing impossible but be safe and patient!
Hope this helps!
Cheers
Atlassian will start working on adding PostgreSQL 10 support for Jira Server in the near future and will be reflecting the status on JRASERVER-65910.
Please join there, vote for it and set yourself as a watcher. You'll receive an update there on our progress going forward.
We've also planned adding support for PostgreSQL 11. See JRASERVER-68578 for updates.
