We found that when we upload any attachment to Jira it saves it in the specified attachment folder without the extension of the file entact. This is not ideal as we'd like to be able to browse using Windows Explorer to get to these files. Is there a configuration setting or workaround available?

No, saving attachments by their numeric ID is default behaviour and is not customizable. Its just not meant to be made available to users as that voids any/all project security that would otherwise protect the content.

The limits of configuration are : https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Configuring+File+Attachments

Any update on this? Would really prefer if we could set an option to maintain file extension.
