Purpose of Server ID / Change it or not?

My question may seem a bit weird but I am kinda new at JIRA:

What is the purpose of the Server ID?

Is it only for Atlassian's administrative purpose or is it of technical use?

I'm asking this because we recently moved from being hosted at Atlassian to being hosted on our end (download version). Because of this move, do we need to have a new server ID?

You need the server id to generate the license for your JIRA instalation
