Quickly change priority?

Hi, is there any way to very quickly change the priority of a jira issue or group of issues? E.g. allowing Priority' changes via the 'Actions' pop-up menu? Or, having a greenhopper type view where you can drag and drop issues into priority 'buckets'?

My teams priorities are constantly shifting and we need a way to reflect this in jira.

thanks

Hi Nick, Whilst there isn't a way right now to quickly change the priority, JIRA 5.0 is introducing a quick edit mode that will allow you to load the edit screen in an overlay similar to the workflow transition overlay.

The GreenHopper Rapid board will allow you to set swimlanes that organise issues by priority, but it doesn't allow you to change them by dragging and dropping unfortunately.

Hi Chris thanks for the prompt response. Good to know that there is some functionality coming. I think changing priorities of large numbers of issues quickly is a fairly common use case, it would be great if it was possible to leverage your drag and drop interface for this purpose. Just an idea.

thanks

Here is an idea. Make it so one can create a Dashboard (a grid filled will all open tasks) and then make the Priority column editable in the grid, where just changing the priority in an editable dropdown there would be a 1 click edit and save on change. That is step 1, and would allow one to change one-by-one very quickly.

To expand on that, step 2, would be to make the dashboard grid such that on can multiselect rows and then do a bulk-update on priority for all selected rows.

Etc.

HTH.

I'd like to bring this one back up... I'm constantly changing priority and even with the latest release I have to open up the full issue just to edit the priority. (see my screenshot attached.)

The original question implied the View Issue page, but you are correct in pointing out that Issue Navigator is lacking here as well.

I suggest you raise an improvement request on http://jira.atlassian.com

I'd also recommend what Mark had suggested. There was a lightening talk at the Atlassian Summit on this kind of "Instant Update" tricks. If you have 5 minutes, take a look at the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wG8F2RK-HO0

One thing you can do in even old versions of JIRA is to configure a Workflow transition that doesn't actually change the Issue Status.
eg add a transition called "Prioritise" that takes an issue from "Open" to "Open".

You can then associate that transition with a custom "Screen" that is only configured to have the Priority field (or whatever fields).
