Automatically assign a label to a Jira issue containing the issue key

Thanks for this explanation. I wonder if you can provide me some more information though on how to automatically assign a label to a Jira issue containing the issue key.

To explain my use case, I am using a third party app (TestRail) and when I move my issues to a new project, the association that TestRail has to the original issue key is broken. To fix this, I can easily update the TestRail item with the new issue key and the association to Jira is re-established. I have a large number of test items, so want a clever way of automating this.

I do appreciate that I am using a third party tool but I imagine that having a way of adding a label containing the current issue key would be useful to many Atlassian users in general. This would allow one to use an automation tool such as Selenium to update TestRail items as described above.

Many thanks for your suggestions in advance.

Hey @Mick Might  - have you tried using Automation for Jira to solve this? It's pretty easy to play around with.

Not specific to your data but here's an example of adding another kind of label - you might need to play with the JSON options for your scenario: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-questions/Automation-for-Jira-Automatically-Add-Label-to-Stalled-Tickets/qaq-p/1296772
