Cannot delete a field that is required by Jira or Jira Service Desk

Hello together,

as the title suggests, I cannot edit the request type of a project anymore.

I´m not sure why this is happening but email requests can also not be made. When I send a test mail, it just never arrives as a ticket.

So when I try to edit the email adress, this message appears:

To receive requests by email, you must have a request type with visible Summary and Description fields. All other request type fields must be optional. You can create a new request type or modify an existing one here.

So I click on here but that brings me back to the beginning when I can´t edit the request type.

I googled for a solution and saw, that there are only two fields required when email requests should be possible: summary and description.

But how can I set them if I cannot even access them?

Hoping for some help here.

Best Regards

In the administration section of the service desk you will need to select Request Types from the left handed menu.  Choose an existing request type that you would like to use or create a new one for incoming emails.  Ensure that the request type has the Summary Field and Description Field.    Now return to your email setup and select the request type you just setup and everything will work.

Hello @Brant Schroeder,

I tried this too but it did not work.

I deleted the email address so I can change it to the new request type. But when I click on "Add an email address" this message appears:

Error when editing email settings

That message is because all of the request types you have setup are most likely missing the description field.  So please follow these steps:

  1. Go to Project Settings - This is the gear in the lower left hand corner.
  2. On the menu select request types.
     rtype.PNG
  3. For the request type you wish to use for email select edit fields.field.PNG
  4. Make sure that the Summary field and the Description field are present under visible fields.vfields.PNG
  5. If they are not there please add them.
  6. Once the fields have been added to the request type go and setup your email address on the service desk.

@Brant Schroeder,

as I mentioned before: it is not possible to do this what you suggested. When I follow your tips, I get this message..

It is not possible to edit the fields in the first place..

I also tried out the workaround mentioned in this page, but it did not work for me.

Yousaf,

If you are unable to edit a request type you have something else wrong with your instance.  If the issue is not the same issue found here: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSDSERVER-5782  You will need to look at your logs and see what error is being recorded when you hit that page.  Once you have the error you will be able to troubleshoot.
