Changing Project Key, what will it exactly affect?

I am changing a project key for a team member? However, will this change all open and closed tickets in current and previous sprints? 

The documentation doesn't really dive into all aspects of the change. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me.

Are you using the edit key function? If so, it explains it pretty well I think. Yes, any issue in the project will have the new key applied. doesn't matter if open or closed. You can search on the old key.
