Just a heads up: On March 24, 2025, starting at 4:30pm CDT / 19:30 UTC, the site will be undergoing scheduled maintenance for a few hours. During this time, the site might be unavailable for a short while. Thanks for your patience.
×Problem statement:
We receive an error message when attempting to add the system field "Labels" to any screen associated with a particular issue type. Adding "Labels" to other screens does not produce the same error.
Details:
We have an issue type called "Incident". Note that this is not the built-in Incident issue type that comes with Jira Service Desk - this is a custom issue type in Jira Server.
"Incident" has three screens associated with it - Create, Edit, and View. Attempting to add the system field "Labels" to any of these screens results in an error message that says "Error: The Jira server was contacted but has returned an error response. We are unsure of the result of this operation."
Any suggestions for what the root cause might be?
This isn't exactly the same problem but is related to the labels field and error message - perhaps worth taking a look here: https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/getting-the-jira-server-was-contacted-but-has-returned-an-error-response-we-are-unsure-of-the-result-of-this-operation-when-trying-to-drop-down-label-field-867036944.html

Hi @Inactive Stephen , the workaround in the second link did the trick - must have something to do with the tabs on the screen we are attempting to add the field to. Thanks!
