GitHub and Smart Commits new App not working

Rob Vice November 27, 2018

Everything is configured and the status is reporting ACTIVE, but there are no development tools listed per project. If I try to add, it brings me through the DVCS path, which reading the documentation is no longer preferred (nor working, it hits a not found page on GitHub).

I've read wait 4 days, a few hours and other comments indicating it never works. I am in the case of it never works since moving to the new app.

What is a way to diagnose the issue and/or a proper uninstall/install?

Hey Rob,

Sorry you're having trouble with the new Github app! In my testing, the development panel only showed up when there were smart commits related to the Jira issue in question. Example: a commit message like this -

MT-123 correct issue with false positives

would cause the development panel on MT-123 to appear (but that issue wouldn't have the Development panel until a smart commit was made against it). Unlike the previous DVCS connector, I haven't seen the "create branch" link appearing in issues with the new Github app unless there's a commit associated with the issue already.

If you do need to uninstall/reinstall, have a go with this:

  1. Navigate to the Manage apps page in Jira and uninstall GitHub for Jira
  2. Go to the Find new apps page and install GitHub for Jira
  3. Walk through the install wizard
  4. From the Manage apps page again, you should be able to see the Github for Jira app. Click the Get started button to get to the configuration page
  5. If everything has gone well, you should see the GitHub organizations you've configured:

Hope that helps!

Cheers,
Daniel

I see the organization as active, but I still do not see anything with the smart commits. I've created branches, added commits, PR's and merges, but still nothing shows in Jira tickets.

We have the same issue with our Github integration with the new app. This is incredibly frustrating.

I have been told by Alex (from the GitHub team) that the developers are working on this prior to the holidays and should get back on it after New Years. Here's to hoping they figure it out.

It is now working for us after uninstalling (GitHub and Jira sides) and installing again. The status is now "Complete" where it was stuck on "Pending" before.
