How many mail handlers per project

Helpdesk May 24, 2018

I want to setup two mail handler for project X. One should create Task issues and the other should create Bug issues.

We have one mail handler for project X.  It uses the email address Issuetask@domain.com We have a second mail handler for project X. It uses the email address Issuebug@domain.com.

The automated Jira issue creation for issue type Task works. The automated Jira issue creation for issue type Bug does not. When an email is send to Issuebug@domain.com the mail handler does not pick up the email. When I chose "Test" it returns the notification "No messages in mailbox". Despite the mails in the inbox of Issuebug@domain.com.

Both mail handlers receive mails in the inbox and should process them. Can somebody offer some help please. I am at a loss why this does not work. Am I only allowed one mail handler per project?

HI @Helpdesk,

Yes, there should be no limit to configure the incoming handler for a project.

No, the incoming mail handler should work for bug issue type as well.

I have configured for a single and tested as well, please refer below screenshot for the same.

Hi Yogesh,

Your print screen is very helpful. My setup of the mail handlers is almost equal to yours. Instead of pop I am using IMAP.

Could it be that the account JIRA uses for authentication on IMAP should have access to all mailboxes that are used for the mail handlers?

Thanks in advance.

HI @Helpdesk,

Yes, as i have been used the Gmail account for my personal setup on local instance hence I have been used pop and mail handler should have access to that particular mailbox for processing and once the ticket will create into jira then the mail will be deleted from your mailbox.

If you feel this answer will be helpful for you and the resolve your problem then please accept it.

Hi Yogesh,

I should have known the authentication was the problem. After reading your reply I corrected the setup of the mail handlers and things are running now.

Thank you very much. You just saved a lot of time.

Hi @Yogesh Mude

Is there a possibility to include more than one issue type per project - mailhandler. If yes, how?

We want to implement mailhandler for 15 projects, although each project have 4+ issue types. Our wish is to be able to add mailhandler for a project that works for more than one issue.

I know that one project can have several mailhandler with one issue type, but since we have so many project and issue types it would be a big mess with more than 60 mailhandlers...

There should be no limit, I've got several pointing at a single project.

It sounds like the handler for bug can't retreive anything from the mailbox

Hi Nic,

Your reply is much appreciated. Now that I know multiple mail handlers are permitted on the same project I can concentrate on finding the cause of the problem.

Thank you for helping me out.
