How to generate an exportable list of all custom fields used in a jira instance

Greg Elofson

We need to generate an exportable list of all custom field text used in our jira instance. It's a first step for finding redundant usage of custom fields (eg. num and nmbr). The project name is irrelevant because we need to find the custom fields text for all project.

Many thanks in advance for any and all help available.

Hi @Greg Elofson

Logging as a JIRA Admin:

Cog -> issues -> custom fields

If it is not helping are you willing to invest in a plugin?

Thanks Fadoua,

The solution provides a screen listing of custom fields. So, to be more specific, the list should be downloadable (for data manipulation). The screen that renders using the Cog -> issues -> custom fields approach does not appear to be exportable.

Re plugins...it may turn out to be necessary, especially if I cannot find a JQL query + API call to do it (and no export possible).

You can select all custom fields and use the copy/paste function.

Yes, it may come to that...a highly manual process of grooming the data. I'm hoping we can find an automated solution--as we'll be working with several thousand custom fields over many instances while we perform many migrations.

@Greg ElofsonIf the plugin I sent you is not working, I can ask other champions. Insight has so many features that it is ranking among the best plugins.
