Hello Community, how are you?
We need to quickly jump from Jira Server 9.1.1 to reach Jira Datacenter latest version, what is the shortest path to reach this goal or the recommended path?
Due to various circumstances in our company we have not been able to update and now I see the need to jump quickly from one end to the other, and know the least number of version jumps to get from one to the other.
So I listen to them!! and I appreciate the suggestions.
Greetings...
Clarification. The licenses are available to access the DataCenter version.
Hi
I guess you are good to upgrade to jira 9.17 directly, but always test upgrade in test env first.

I'm certain that moving from "server" to "data center" will require a new data center license. I would get a new license and apply it to your existing 9.1 installation first, even if it's only one server. From there you can install the latest version in-place more easily.
If you want to deploy more nodes, treat it like a zero-downtime upgrade:
I agree with @Florian Bonniec that you should be able to upgrade directly, without any intermediate versions.

Hi @Florian Bonniec @Jim Knepley - ReleaseTEAM
Thank you for your answers, I have three environments set up PRD, QA and DEV, all three in the same version, my question is if before doing what you told me I have to jump to an intermediate version or directly jump to DataCenter on new servers.
Obviously, I'm going to be testing this first in Test and QA and then PRD.

I prefer using the "Long Term Support" releases of Jira, and going from 9.1.1 to the latest LTS (9.12.12) won't require any intermediate versions.
I would avoid the recently released version 10.0.0 for now. They made some big changes that could break add-ons and other automation.

Hello Jim,
Can I ask you one more question? If you allow me.
The Datacenter license that I already have available can I apply it directly on my current jira server that has version 9.1.0?
Both on the server and on the add-ons.
Tks.

I want to verify that I understand you correctly: you want to apply for a data center license to a server using an existing server license.
You should be able to do that, yes.
