I want to send notifications to a Project manager(role) in Jira cloud only when the then status changes. If anything else happens other than status change I don't want the notification to be sent. Can this be achieved in JIRA cloud? Please let me know
Set up the workflow so that when the status changes, it fires a "transition" event.
Use the notification scheme to tell Jira who to mail when that event happens.
thanks for teaching me something new today Nic! ;-)

hi
1. I want to send out notifications to a group whenever the status changes
2. I followed the guide https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/configure-a-custom-event-notification-for-a-specific-jira-workflow-transition-or-status-720831525.html and did everything as per this.
3. in the drop down of choosing default email template I chose generic template
4. edited m,y notification scheme and put my event but did not receive any email.
Can anyone please let me know what am I missing here?

Was it you taking the action?
Check your profile for the "email me on my own changes" flag - that will suppress emails from your actions when it is enabled (most of us set it - I don't need an email to tell me what I just did!)

Are you getting other notifications from other actions?
