Is there a prospective planned date for Jira 8.10.0

Atlassian has said that MSSQL 2014 will not be supported as of Jira 8.10.0, but there is not date on when that version will be released.  Does anyone have an idea of when that will be?  My organization is looking to plan when we HAVE to upgrade or move off of MSSQL.

Hi Christopher,

I understand that you are looking to get an estimate as to when Jira 8.10.0 will be released because you are using a MS SQL 2014 database and want to start to plan your upgrade/migration details.

However there is a flaw in this premise.  Even if Jira 8.10 does deprecate support for that database version, you don't have to migrate your data to a new platform immediately.  Only if you wanted to always be on the latest version of Jira as it is released would you need to migrate the data to a newer database type/version to stay on a supported platform. 

Atlassian has a policy to support each minor version release (8.0 was a major release, 8.1, 8.2, 8.3 are minor release examples) up to 2 years from the initial release.  Meaning, you don't need to migrate that database data immediately when 8.10.0 ships, but rather you could still be on a supported platform if you stay with an older version of Jira, say a 8.7.x version until 3 Feb 2022 according to our Atlassian Support End of Life Policy.   Furthermore if 8.9.x still has support for that database version, then then support date would be 2 years from the official release date of 8.9.0.

Sorry if this does not directly answer your question, but I'm not able to provide an accurate estimate of when that version might be released.

I understand that but as soon as a security vulnerability comes out for a version we are forced to move off of that version regardless of severity, so if we are on 8.9.x and a CVE comes out for 8.9 that says to mitigate by going to 8.10, then end of life doesn't matter.  This is why we were hoping to have a date of when 8.10 would be out just to be aware of it on our radar in preparation.
