What for is a Jira Component Lead?

Anna Olenberg March 18, 2019

Hello dear Jira experts,

please help me to understand what for a Component lead is used in Jira.

The documentation https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver073/managing-components-861253335.html did not help me at all.

Thanks in advance!

Greetings, Anna

Generally this is a way of automatically assigning issues for a give Component to a give person. So if you have 3 components each with a lead then when issues are created they are assigned to the proper person. If you don't have a lead for a component then it can be left unassigned or assigned to the Project Lead.

And what happens if there are several components with different component leads?

I tested this now and it seems to me, that Jira sorts the components like this:

1. numbers sorted ascending

2. names sorted alphabetically

and from this sorting takes the first component lead, right?
