Where can I find the default system status (steps)?

Not sure if Cloud and Server Jira instances differ. Where can I find a list of the Default states that come with Jira?

Team requested we stick to the defaults as much as possible as it impacts reports & filters. I lost track if "Reopened" is a default or not...

I think I found it "jira (Read-only System Workflow)"

Open

In progress

Resolved

Reopened

Closed

One of the managers was very adament that "reopened" was useless and NOT a default jira state. If I'm reading the above default correctly then Reopened IS indeed a default!

Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking of!

You can tell your manager that they are totally wrong about "reopened is not a Jira default status".

Whether it is "useless" though is an opinion.  In some cases, it is.  In others, it is not.

The question about how useful it is goes back to your process and reporting.  If you work in a place where work arrives and you deal with it and move on, you might not care.  If something goes wrong, re-opening doesn't matter, you just dump it back in the to-do list and carry on.

But in places where you're worried about quality of development, you probably do care - measuring things that get re-opened can be a useful metric for quality (for example, we're building a car.  Testers re-open 4  issues about steering, but 143 about suspension - that is probably very useful planning information)

Hi Nic...I went in and tried to modify one of my workflows to use the existing default "Open" default status. It wasn't there and it allowed me to create a new one "open". Do you know how to get the original one back? I thought the read only settings shouldn't let us modify and of the 5 default states. I want to go back to using as many "defaults" as I can. Thanks.

Maybe we can still rename the states/status but just not modify the Jira workflow. I'm not sure how to check that I'm using the right "Default" state, is there an ID or something I can lookup?

There is one workflow distributed with Jira that cannot be edited.  It uses the five default status that are off-the-shelf.  Go to the list of workflows and find the "jira default" workflow (it may be inactive)

You can rename the default status though, and all the applications provide project templates that can create another set of "default" status (e.g. create a scrum project and it will add To Do, In Progress and Done if you don't have them already)
