Thanks for the update on new querying capability. I was wondering if there would be some option in future to display all the issues linked along with their status.
Example: I have list of initiatives under which many epics are created using the parent link feature using the Portfolio plan. I would like to report on all the initiatives and epics underneath them using a query. The result should provide me with both epics and initiatives along with their status.
If this is not possible through the query, is there any other way out? This is crucial in building out a Portfolio report on all the work done.
Hi,
I'm afraid that the current issuelinktype JQL feature in Jira 8 does not provide specific information about the issues this particular issue is linked to. Instead this feature can only allow you to search for Jira issues that have a specific link type. The native JQL itself cannot tell you anything more about what that issue is actually linked to, or details about the linked issues.
I can't say if there will be any additional searching capabilities for exactly what you are looking for natively within Jira. I suppose it's possible, but I don't have any knowledge in regards to if or when new features will be released to Jira. The public information on this is already on https://jira.atlassian.com/ specifically I would recommend checking out the new Jira Server and Data Center current work and future plans dashboard if you're interested in learning more about what is in the works for Jira Server.
That said, I think there other plugins to Jira that can already give you more details in the vein of what I think you are looking for here. For example, Scriptrunner has a JQL function to return all the issues that are linked to issues of a subquery. Check out Scritprunner JQL Functions: linkedIssuesOf for details.
I'm sure there are other plugins to Jira that can do a similar function as well, perhaps Power Scripts or others found on Marketplace.
I hope this helps.
Andy
