Stop JIRA joining new users to groups

Sascha Schwegelbauer January 21, 2015

How can I make JIRA stop adding new users to default group "jira-users".

I don't want new users belong to any group.

Thanks for help

You can't, sort of - when you create a new user, JIRA adds them to all the groups in the "can log in" groups in "global permissions".  By default, that is "JIRA users".

You need a group to be able to let people log in.

So, you have to have at least one group in there for your non-admin users.  And all new users will be added to it.

Standard recommendation - remove jira-users from all uses EXCEPT "can log in".  Don't use it in roles, permissions, security schemes, notifications etc.  Then define your other reoutes into projects as required.

That's bad.

I'm creating new users via REST-API just for being able to use them in the reporter-field.

When new users always join any group, it'll blast the license limit very quickly for no use.
