Recent change to "@" functionality?

We noticed last week, that when we're in a text field like Comments and Description and type the @ sign, it now shows us who is the assignee, reporter or commenter.  It also has a note to try @assignee or @Reporter.

Did this come in with some type of update?  We're trying to figure out how it started showing.

Interesting question.

We have Jira 7.11.2 and this feauture exists.
