Recommended practice to handle multiple versions of the same document

I am looking for a recommendation for the best way or best practice to handle multiple versions of the same document or attachment in Jira?

Well, the obvious would be to specify a strict naming convention for attachments. Other that that, I would suggest using Confluence :-)
