Show issues in epic in issueview without license

Nicole Brückner October 10, 2024

Dear community,

We have a Jira business project, where we are doing simple task management, but on the levels Epic, task & sub-task.

We have the challenge, that the panel "Issues in Epic" only shows up, as soon as the user has a Jira Software License assigned:

The users are not working with boards etc.... Just this view is required. And just to geht this a whole license is just too big.

Any ideas how to achieve this?

Thank for your help in advance.

Nicole

Hi @Nicole Brückner

While Jira doesn't offer a built-in way to display the "Issues in Epic" panel without a Jira Software license, there are options to explore.

One option is creating custom fields to link issues to epics. Add a "Select List" or "Labels" field, make it visible on the issue view screen, and populate it with relevant epic information. This allows users to see epic relationships without the full panel.

Otherwise, create and share JQL filters using the "Epic Link" = EPIC-KEY query, enabling users to run filters for specific epic-related issues. If you have ScriptRunner, develop scripted custom fields to fetch and display related issues.

Other approaches include integrating Confluence to display epic-related information using Jira macros or leveraging Jira's REST API for a custom solution. While these options require some configuration or development,

Else finally - Create custom dashboard gadgets that display epic-related issues. they can effectively provide epic visibility without a Jira Software license.

Hope this helps - Happy to help further!!
Thank you very much and have a great one!
Warm regards
