Some epics appear differently

Most of my Spics appear as dark grey bars with "wings". However, a couple of them are displayed as bars without wings (they look just like Stories). I can't figure out what the difference between these epics is - any thoughts?

Here is an example - all of these are just normal epics as far as I can tell, but some are displayed with hooks (and their duration is not editable), while others are displayed as "normal" bars (and their duration is editable).

Hello there David,

Differences between these two 'epic types' display i very prosaic to be completely honest. Solid - greyed out epics are epics which do not have any issues linked to them and ones with "hooks" ('wings) are epics which already are parents to other Jira issues.
