Story points, subtasks, burndown chart?

Hi All,

I am confused about how burn down and velocity charts work in JIRA.

We use hours for story points. So I understand the velocity and burn down are calculated as we close the stories.

So if the Time Tracking is on, does it calculate these even if the stories are not closed?

How are velocity/burn down values calculated?

Thanks.
Eshan

Basically, what is the relationship between story points and time tracking?

There is no relationship.  Time tracking is a record of estimated time worked and actual.  Story points are a measure of complexity.

A burndown chart can be told to use one of them (or another number) to track how you're doing.

Subtasks are irrelevant to burndown - they are a convenience for developers to break down a story, but can't be used for progress tracking.
