Sub Task Creates New Row on Scrum Board

When we add a sub task to a user story it moves the user story up to its own row on the board.  How can we stop this from happening?

Configuring the swimlanes to be based on something other than "Story" would accomplish this.  https://confluence.atlassian.com/agile/jira-agile-user-s-guide/configuring-a-board/configuring-swimlanes

You could also make a quickfilter to supress all subtasks, which (I'm sort of guessing) would have a similar effect.
