User profile avatars are not reflecting on activity stream

When a user selects an profile avatar other than JIRA's default selection; the personalized avatar does not reflect on activity stream status updates.

I ran into a similar problem. I was seeing avatars in history, but not the activity stream. In our case, we have a shortcut url set up to access jira. If you logged in using the shortcut instead of the url specified by the Base URL in General Configuration and set your avatar, I saw the behavior mentioned above. After I logged in using the Base URL, deleted the avatar and then reset it, everything was fine.
