User unable to move a task from ToDo to In Progress

Tom Garland August 20, 2024

I have a very simple workflow - ToDo->In Progress->Done. I am the admin for the board. One of my users is unable to move their story to the "In Progress" column even though the workflow allows this. They can only move directly to the "Done" column. Other users can move their tasks to the "In Progress" column without any problem. The user who is unable to move their story is included in the share list for the filter used by the board. Why would one particular user be unable to move their story to "In Progress"?

@Tom Garland have you reviewed the project permissions rather than the board permissions? My guess is the user doesn't belong to a role with the 'Transition Issues' permission.

There must be a restriction of validator on the transition. Most often is only allows users in particulate project roles or groups to transition the issue. You may need to talk to the Jira admin to have them tell you what role/group the user needs to be in and get them assigned to the role/group

This could be performed by the project admin too, right? In DC project admins can see the roles/permissions, not just Jira Admins. We're moving to Cloud (unfortunately) so it would be helpful to know if this is a restriction not offered in Cloud.

Hi, @Tom Garland 👋  Have you checked with your Jira administrator?

If not, please do. It sounds like this user does not have the same global (Jira-wide) permissions as the rest of the team. I.e., global permission schemes outweigh board permissions.

Best,
