Using LDAP as JIRA User Directory

Hello all, 

I have a question regarding LDAP Implementation for JIRA. My purpose of setting up user directory is mainly to centralize authentication between both applications of JIRA and Confluence. I set up a service desk in JIRA and Knowledgebase from Confluence is connected to provide articles but the problem is whenever a user wants to read the KB article, they need to re-login to confluence again. 

Through many research, I learned that I need to set up a user directory such as CROWD but rather than using CROWD, would it be possible to use any open source LDAP such as OpenDS or open LDAP only? 

If you have an experience of implementing LDAP only as a user directory and succeeded to control the authentication among multiple application, please share your experience. Any success or failure?

Hi,

CROWD has been used for centralised login and SSO among all the Atlassian applications. LDAP or openLDAP can be used for centralised login (all users /groups stored in one place) so all the users will be authenticated against it. It is possible that you can setup openLDAP server in any of the linux server to get the LDAP functionality. You can find many articles on this topic, I just find this one by google. But, SSO functionality does not come with LDAP implementation.
