What happens if I delete a "team" from a dropdown of Dev Teams?

BACKGROUND:  We have a field called Dev Teams that is a multi-select field.  It has been around a while and new teams have been created and older teams were disabled.  For instance: Dev Team 1, Dev Team 2 were disabled when GUI Team, Database Team, etc were created.

CURRENT:  We have about 20 teams in the list (though obviously the disabled ones don't show up in the dropdown).  

QUESTION:  What is the advantages/disadvantages of Deleting the unused teams vice Disabling them?

I see answers on how to, but nothing about impact of doing so.

Hello @Eric Bailey 

When you delete the value from the options in the Custom Field it will remove that value from all issues where it was used. If you just disable it, the data is retained.

Hi @Eric Bailey 

When you delete the value, its gone from the system and you can search for this value anymore.

If you disable the option, the information will remain in the system and will be searchable
