I am looking for a good init.d script for jira, one that:
As Jira is not extremly stable on some systems, it is required to improve it's uptime by adding automatic restarts when neccesary.
Mmm... I have created such a script for a client, but I should retrieve and generify it first ...
Anyway. your requests are easy to implement: sh works quite the same on all systems, restart should be done both gentle and forced.
I do not understand what "be safe to call by some kind of keep-alive daemon" means (all such scrips can be called from crond, for instance).
But be warned: I do not know if my script will be the *best* LOL.

That script is even worse than what I currently have, even if jira fails to start it will say nothing.

So, you expect the script to do some notification when the startup fails?
