New JIRA User here.
On a fresh JIRA installation, I cannot edit comments inside issues. How can I change this?
All I found is that it is related to permissions, but I cannot find a setting about "permission to edit your own comment". Using the permission helper it turned out, that I have the permission to edit all or my own comments. So looks like this is no permission issue at all. Hmmm ???
Finally found it. Clicking the comment and then inside the master edit dialog of the issue allows it. Puh.

(I am also frustrated with the help system, whenever I click help inside the JIRA app, I am redirected to the Atlassian site, with the search query I typed in, but the search results are for ALL Atlassian products, so they are ALWAYS meaningless, before I to another search restricted to the product, like Jira. Even then however, I have not yet found an answer to any problem I had. In other words, I like Atlassian products much more than the documentation)
You need to change the permission scheme on the project. In there, one of the lines is "edit own comments" and another "edit anyone's comments".
There's no particular recommendation on how best to use these, it's up to how you want to do it, but a good starting point is to simply let the role of user edit their own comments (but bear in mind that there is no history of comment edits)
You need to be a JIRA or System administrator to change permission schemes, or change the project to use a different scheme.
