how to clear sprint field of issues moved to backlog by complete sprint

Changlin S September 11, 2024

CASE 1: Move issue from active sprint to Backlog, the sprint field of the issue is cleared

CASE 2: when complete sprint, the incomplete issues were selected to move to Backlog, and the sprint field of the issues still kept the previous sprint.

Question:

Is it possible that clear the sprint field value of the CASE 2, just like CASE 1 did?

And how if possible?

Thanks.

So this intended to be a feature not a bug - it serves to show you which tickets have been carried over and which sprints they historically belong to.

You could look at triggering an automation to clear this but you'd be losing useful historic data to help you identify trends in tickets rolling over etc.

What problem is having the old sprint in the fields causing / what are you aiming to achieve by clearing it?

Thank you Kit, and yeah absolutely it's not bug.

What I want is that get the story completion ratio and also monitor the volatility according to this sprint field value changes. The counter will +1 if sprint field value changed.

So that's why I want to clear the sprint field value, and the issue history is enough to track if needs.

I'd never do any automation but I'll check that.

Thanks in advance if any other advice on what I wants.

@Changlin S clearing the sprint data etc probably won't give you great insights here (and you'll lose historic data being easy to see). The velocity chart does show you planned vs completed which gives a good insight on this: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/view-and-understand-the-velocity-chart/

You might also want to consider something like Screenful which gives a more tailored breakdown visual - I've often used this as a cheap and effective approach as Jira's native reporting is a bit lacklustre: https://screenful.com/tour/reports

@Kit Friend  I see, thank you for the advice, I'll look into the reporting first.
