Celix Zones Plugin

Ahjaz Hussain September 18, 2012

I have installed a trial version of the Celix Zones Plugin and I am having issues with the plugin as it is not meeting my requirement needs.

I basically would like level 1, 2 and 3 supports teams to be assigned issues/tickets within one project. How can I achieve this.

My setup:

Project is Network Support

Tickets will be assigned to Level1, Level2, and Level3 each Level consisting with 2 – 5 technicians. How can I achieve this with the use of this plugin as currently with JIRA I cannot assign to a group but only one user.

Thank you

Hi Ajhaz,

your requirement is currently on our roadmap and is scheduled for the next release, where it will be built in functionality of the Zone User Picker fields.

Currently we deploy the following workaround:

Add a workflow transition that leads to the same step, to every workflow step where you want to be able to select an assignee. On the transition screen you need to place the Zone fields to select the assignee. We then use a postfunction that sets the assignee from the Zone User Picker (your "Assigned to" field). The default JIRA assign user field is hidden on all other screens.

You have to keep in mind that this may circumvent the "assignable user" permission in JIRA.

Hope that you enjoy our plugin,

Nikola

Hi Nikola

Thank you very much for your response,

I work for Save the Children International and are currently experiencing some issues with applying our use case requirements to JIRA.

Much of this has been resolved with the Zones plugin, as this requirement is for one project only, we have decided to create seperate screens and hide the assignee field for now, and also the assign button - worth testing.

Is there any time frame for the new release.

Thank you

Ahjaz

I hope we will be able to release before end of september, but I cannot predict the release date as of now.

Hi Nikola

Thank you for your email,

I have spoken to my line manager and have agreed to wait for the release of the new version. However, we are currently in testing phase of our JIRA system and is there a possibility we could test a beta version of the Zones Plugin.

Also you mentioned the end of September, do you have a date in mind.

Look forward to your reply

Regards

Ahjaz

this should be tagged as addon-at.celix.jira.plugins.zones and not addon-at.celix.jira.plugins.column-order

I'm missing karma to do it myself, could somebody be so nice?

My understanding here is that you need to assign an issue to a group of people, and not to an user. This, AFAIK, it cannot be done, but you can restrict and validate the users you might assign the issue to.

You may even have 3 projects, one for each level, each level has its own WF and creates issues in the upper level. (example setup that may be better; an issue in level1 may generate several issues in level2, etc).

Anyway, your issue has nothing to do with the Celix Zones plugin, that one does what it says it does and it is actually very nice. I'm not the plugin developer and I will be considered (once more) a pain in the arse on Answers, but you should reformulate the first sentence ;)

Hi Radu,

Thank you for your answer, good work around but this is not the solution for me. As the current project has many products and technicians.

However, I may have partly solved the issue. I have used the celix plugin and created a zone field called Assignment Group, within this there are three drop downs level 1, level 2 and level 3.

Then created a second field Zone user picker, namd this Assigned to, the drop down will consist of the members of the zone level 1, 2 or 3.

I can create a filter based on this and use of a dashboard.

But my problem is this, how do I replace the JIRA out of the box assignee with the ones above?

Thanks alot Radu
