How do you export HTML files that can be opened from index.html?

Bill October 23, 2012

After I export a space to HTML and open the ZIP file that is generated, I can open each .htm file. However, if I open the default page for the directory (index.html), I can view the structure of files, but I cannot any open any of the topics.

Hi Wisherut,

When you're opening the zip file on your local machine, are you just browsing through the still-zipped file, or are you expanding it on disk and then opening the files in the expanded directory? I get the same behaviour if I open index.html from within the ZIP archive, but not if I expand the ZIP file on disk and then open the file from the expanded directory.

This isn't really a Confluence thing - when you open a file from within a ZIP file in a web browser, the operating system expands that one single file into the temp directory and opens it from there. Since the links in the page are all relative, the browser then looks for the other files in the temp directory but they're not there - it's not smart enough to know it needs to expand them too.

Expanding the whole ZIP archive before attempting to browse it should solve the issue.

Cheers,

Penny
