Confiforms: IFTTT Send eMail depending on user field

Hello, 

I am trying a Confiforms where a mail should be sent on created only when a specific user has not been selected in a user field. 

I tried to set the IFTTT condition to 

!userfield:xy  

So that the mail is only sent when in userfield is another entry than user xy

This does not work for me, the email is sent also when user xy was selected in userfield. What do I do wrong

The correct way to check the field is NOT matching the value is to use !

And that is in a way

!field:value

Seems like 

userfield:!xy 

works. If that is right I am bit confused on when to set the ! before field or  value..
