×Hi, Atlassian!
We are planning to submit our add-ons on the Marketplace.
At first we want to research a market and make our add-ons free. Further we will convert them to commercial.
The question is: is it possible for plugin to be free but not open source?
And should we do the License API for a free add-on?
Hi Asya, and welcome to the Atlassian partner community. I can't add a great deal to Jobin's answer here: we don't require free add-ons to be open source licensed, and the choice of license to apply is up to you. https://developer.atlassian.com/display/HOME/Marketplace
One thing I strongly recommend you do is be extremely proactive in communicating to any early evaluators and customers that you do not intend to leave the add-on free forever, this helps avoid dissatisfaction later.
Thanks! -nick wade
