Do I understand correctly, that the agent can scan a host without any credentials? What data does it gather (for Windows and Linux)?

Yes that is right.

The Discovery Agent for Windows performs a local scan

and doesn't need credentials to collect the local informations.

We actually only have an Agent for Windows.

And second would it be recomended to use the agent on mass scale? (with the export transfered to JIRA)

And that the agents need to be installed on the hosts? It was not clear for me.

If you want to do it you need to install the agent on each windows host.

That is not the best practise, it would be better to use

the discovery without an agent. Connect via WMI remotely to the hosts and perform the scan.
