Activities-level as per Jeff Paton's story map

Tony Semana October 24, 2018

Hi, coming here from the Representing Activities on the story map article, and

the callout "We do have a story on the backlog to provide native support for Components as a third level in the hierarchy. Feel free to reach out to the Support team and let us know this is important to you"

Wanted to find out the status of this work, as being able to represent our work this way is very important to our workflow.

We're currently testing JIRA + EA USM for one of our client projects.  Coming from a Trello/StoriesOnBoard setup.  We find the tight integration quite compelling, but the structure of the stories just doesn't map to the correct levels.  Having a top, Components-level on the map would allow Epics to be tasks and the Stories could be the sub-tasks that developers actually plan and deliver around.

Thanks!

Hi Tony, thanks for reaching out.

At present using the combination of Jira native Components and QuickFilters as outlined in the article is the best way to represent these higher-level activities.

We have investigated the possibility of displaying these higher-level components on the story map but haven't yet found an elegant, non-invasive solution. I have added your comments to the story on our backlog, and made a note to reach out to you when/if we release this feature. If you have any ideas on what you would like to see, or other ways we could improve please reach out to us via our customer support portal.

Thanks Tony.

Hi! I work at an it-company and have investigated how we could use "Easy Agile User Story Maps for Jira" in our work. Without this implemented I don't think it's worth the money to buy it.

Hi Hillevi, thanks for your feedback.

We understand each team has different needs, and know that this may not be the best solution for everyone. There is currently an open feature suggestion on our backlog to improve functionality around additional layers of hierarchy, I have included your vote and made a note to reach out to you here when/if we release this in a future update. If you have any ideas on how you would like this to look, or where we could improve further please reach out to us at support@easyagile.com

Thanks Hillevi, feedback like yours helps us build a better product!

Kind Regards,

Rather than activity, we need a way to organize very easely opportunity / themes / features. Component, boards or quick filter are very difficult to use (I mean not very productive). It could be nice to have the possibility to create idea / themes (feature level) in a fast way (like now with story). Then create story map in it.

I d'ont know if you know this product : Craft.io ? I'm not from this company so it's not advertisement but the way they implement the functionnality is very good. May be you could take a look ?

Oh another suggestion ! Abilty to show story description along story map. Very annoying to see open a new tab each time I click on a story ID :).

I saw "Feel free to reach out to the Support team and let us know this is important to you", so this is me reaching out. I didn't want to create another ticket, and couldn't find a way to vote on the feature, so I'll leave a comment here that I'd like this feature as well please. If there is a place where I can go vote, please let me know and I'll go do that. I could easily have overlooked the voting link.

It's a pity that your tool seems to be stuck in displaying this additional level of a User Story Map. I'm sorry, but I have to say that this makes us reconsider our decision for your tool in the long run.

There's one more issue with using Components as activities currently: If I add a new Story under a given Epic in a User Story Map, this Story is automatically assigned to the appropriate Epic. Unfortunately, this is not the case for Component. So I would have to manually assign the (non visible) Component which an Epic belongs to to each new Story below that given Epic. Otherwise, Quick Filters won't help at all.

Is there a way to make this work automatically in some way?
