Copying a structure and not cloning the issues.......

Kaarina Tejle June 26, 2019

Hi

So I have copied a structure and selected to not clone the issues.

How do I then proceed to "disconnect" the old issues from the structure to the new ones that are already in the project?

I already have the cloned issues that should go in this structure in the project so is it a simple delete from the structure and replace or is there some more efficient way to do this?

Hello Kaarina,

Do I understand correctly that you have copied a structure and now you wish to delete all issues from this new copied structure and replace them with other issues? If you could share some details about your use case, I will be able to suggest the best solution.

Hi

Yes that is exactly right. So the process in full has been this.

1. In a empty project first copy a Full_process_structure and clone the issues , typical issues for a  project gateway process. So from Template_issues I now have Project_issues

2. Copy next Timeline_structure and NOT clone the issues as this one should be used for Project_issues that are already existing because of the first structure.

3. The second structure includes Template_issues that are connected to the template structure and they should be "deconnected" and I want to use replace them with Project_issues

The help I got from people at the office was that "you need to disconnect the issues from the template and connect it to the issues in the project" which does sound logical but I have no idea of how to accomplice.

Hello Kaarina,

Thanks for the details! One more question just to make sure I fully understand your use case:

As far as I understand, you use a Full_process_structure to clone all issues for a new project. And what about the Timeline_structure? Should a new Timeline_Structure contain all issues for a new project or only some of them?

Also how are these two structures built? Are they built manually or automatically using Inserters and Extenders?

The final question: what do you mean by saying that issues in the Timeline_Structure are connected to the Template structure? Do you mean that these are not real issues but just template issues and you want to remove them and replace with the real issues for this project? Or do you mean that these issues are linked with an actual Jira link to the template issues?

This info will help me find the best solution for you.
