I have an automation that takes some data from the epic (Next-Gen) of a task and performs some logic. The problem is that I cannot find a way to have this automation triggered when the Epic is set or edited.
The "Field value changed" doesn't contain anything related to the parent, and the generic "Issue Updated" doesn't trigger either.
Please let me know if there is any other way to achieve it.
Thanks.
Hello Maurizio,
Thank you for reaching out to Atlassian Community!
I'm not sure if I understood correctly what do you need the automation to change.
It's possible to set an automation to run when an Epic is assigned, but I need more details about the rest of the automation.
Can you please share with us a screenshot of the automation or more details about what the automation should do?
Regards,
Angélica
Thanks for the reply, but probably I didn't explain myself in the best way.
I need to trigger Jira Automation as soon as the Epic/Parent is set to a next-gen task:
So far I cannot find any way to achieve this.

Thank you for the details, Maurizio.
Testing on my local site, I didn't find any trigger to run when the epic link is updated.
The next-gen projects don't have the field Epic Link, so even using smart values for the automation, it won't work for next-gen.
There is a feature request suggesting the implementation of this ability:

Thank you Angelika, I added my vote.
I was hoping that the more generic "Issue Updated" trigger could be extended to include also this.

Hi @Angélica Luz
I can see the issue has now been set to "Fixed", but I can't see how I would trigger an event off changing an issues parent. Are you able to advice?

Hello @Nick Maskell,
Thank you for reaching out to Community and for mentioning that the issue still persists.
Talking to my teammates and also testing on my local site, the Automation doesn’t trigger to edit “Epic Link”.
Also, for the trigger “Field value changed” it doesn’t show the Epic link, only other Epic fields that are not available in next-gen.
There is a bug related to this issue:
